Church Services (Book of Alternative Services)

  • 10:30 AM Morning Prayer on the fifth Sunday of any month.
  • 10:30 AM Service and Holy Eucharist on most other Sundays

The regular pattern of worship at St. Matthew's is one service at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays using the BAS. The Eucharist is celebrated on each Sunday with the exception of a month containing a fifth Sunday; that Sunday may be a Morning Prayer service. Prayers for healing are offered during communion every third Sunday of the month. The fourth Sunday in the month is an outreach service. Regular worship is marked by a high level of participation by lay people who act as greeters, readers, intercessors, organists, cantors, preachers, communion assistants, and many other members are involved in the preparation for services. The honorary clergy also play a very important part in leading services.

All children are welcome. Church School is offered during services from September to early June, and the children rejoin us for the Eucharist. Occasional intergenerational services have been well received.

Currently, there are two organists. We use hymns from the new Blue Hymn Book, Songs for a Gospel People, the Gather Hymn Book and others. St. Matthew's people enjoy singing. There is interest in forming a choir and/or a music ministry team, but to this point no one has taken the responsibility of bringing it together.

  • Parish Prayer Life
St. Matthew's has an active prayer life. A group gathers for prayer at noon every Wednesday. There is a prayer chain, and on Sundays the congregational prayers, led by lay members, include the parish families and the city schools on a rotational basis.
